Lignosulfonate is a surfactant which has many industrial applications such as a surfactant in various fields, for example, in Pharmaceutics and Pesticide Technology, Petroleum Industry, Printing Industry, Construction, Agriculture. . .. This compound is commonly known as a by-product of the pulp digestion process by sulfite method. Lignosulfonate can be also synthesized from recovered lignin, that is separated from the black liquor of pulping mill by alkaline method. Separation of lignin from black liquor brings many environmental benefits but have not yet obtained high efficient economy. Thus, the creation of commercial derivatives from lignin attracts many attentions. In this work, lignosulfonate was successfully synthesized using sulfuric acid agent at low temperature, short reaction time. The obtained lignosulfonate was characterized using IR and UV-VIS techniques to confirm the structure and the surface tension of solution of lignosulfonate was determined according to the ASTM D 971-91.
