In this study, cubic cuprous oxide (Cu2O) is successfully fabricated by using ascorbic acid and glucose as reducing agents. The formation of cubic cuprous oxide is confirmed through XRD and FT-IR methods. The morphology and particle size of the material are characterized by SEM and TEM. The results show that reducing agents are effective in the morphology and particle size of the material. The fabricated cubic cuprous oxide particles exhibit a high purity. In case of ascorbic acid as a reducing agent, the formed Cu2O particles are in a uniform cubic shape with a particle size of about 75 nm. When glucose is used as a reducing agent, the obtained Cu2O has a non uniform and smooth cubic shape with a particle size of about 1.37 micrometers. The obtained cubic Cu2O exhibit a low adsorption capacity for RhB. The maximum RhB treatment efficiency is 25%. The photocatalytic activity of the non uniform cubic Cu2O is better than that of the uniform cubic Cu2O. The RhB treatment efficiency of non uniform cubic Cu2O achieves 43% after 210 minutes.
