Language contact has facilitated the incorporation of an enormous Chinese vocabulary into the Vietnamese language, which then turns into Sino-Vietnamese vocabulary. During this assimilation process, the words of Chinese origin may preserve their original meanings and parts of speech. However, it is likely that these Chinese-origin words may undergo some changes in parts of speech and meanings. This article employs various research methods and research techniques, such as analysis, comparison, and contrast, to clarify the changes in terms of meaning and part of speech in Sino-Vietnamese vocabulary in comparison with Chinese counterparts. It is hoped that the article can contribute a resource for teaching and Chinese-Vietnamese translation.
