Contributing to the idea of unifying a common classification system for the whole country in relation to the international soil classification system FAO-UNESCO-WRB at the level of national and provincial soil maps of Vietnam, focus on 4 main contents: (i) Soil types according to Vietnamese soil classification present in the Mekong Delta; (ii) WRB soil classification basis; (Hi) WRB soil classification standards related to Mekong Delta soils; and (iv) Converting the soil map annotation of the Mekong Delta from the Vietnamese soil classification to the 2014 WRB classification system. The whole Mekong Delta region has 25 soil map units equivalent to soil types, belonging to 8 soil groups, including: sandy soils, saline soils, acid sulphate soils, alluvial soils, peat soils, gray soils, yellow red soils and eroded soil. Based on morphological review and analysis data of representative soil profiles of the Mekong Delta compared with WRB, there have 11 diagnostic layers, 5 diagnostic properties, 5 diagnostic materials and 46 soil properties, soil substance, and then, it has been determined that according to the soil classification of FAO/WRB (2014), the Mekong Delta has 63 second level taxonomies belonging to 8 reference soil groups, including: Acrisols, Arenosols, Cambisols, Fluvisols, Gleysols, Histosols, Leptosols and Solonchaks.
