Doing scientific research is the basic task of university lecturers, and besides teaching capacity, the competence to conduct scientific research determines a lecturer’s professional competence. Through examining the current situation, we realize that the lecturers’ scientific research activities at the Faculty of Basic Science in Tra Vinh University still has certain limitations, such as the absence of provincial or ministerial level research projects, and limited number of publications on ISI-indexed or Scopus-indexed international journals. Based on the results, we have proposed some solutions to promote scientific research activities at the Faculty of Basic Science. The solution has contributed to the implementation of the school’s training mission, as well as to the current national educational innovation, which is a vital, topical, and practical for Vietnamese universities.
