Dieulafoy lesions, a rare cause of gastrointestinal hemorrhage, are caliberpersistent submucosal arteries without surrounding ulcers or mucosal lesions. Dieulafoy lesions rarely bleed profusely and may be missed during diagnostic endoscopy. Most of these lesions are located in the stomach; they have been reported only rarely in other parts of the gastrointestinal tract, including the small bowel. The authors report six case of gastrointestinal hemorrhage secondary to a Dieulafoy lesion in the small bowel and stomach. There were 2 male and, 4 female with mean age 42.17 years (from 18-74 year). They presented with melaena, haematemesis and haemodynamic instability. Preliminary investigations failed to locate the source of bleeding in the small bowel. At laparotomy an arteriovenous malformation was identified in the distal jejunum. Histology revealed these to be of the Dieulafoy type. These are the first published cases of a histologically proved jejunal Dieulafoy lesion in Viet Duc hospital.
