Treatment of pancreatic trauma in Viet Duc hospital

The purpose of this study was to assess the results of pancreatic injury management. From January, 2000 to December, 2008 at the Viet Duc hospital, 52 patients with pancreatic injury were treated, with a ratio of 46 males (88.5 percent) and 6 females (12 percent); the average age is 27.1 + or - 9.5 (ranges from 8 to 52 years old); the cause of injury wastraffic accidents: 44 cases (84.6 percent), labour: 1 (1.9 percent), living: 7 (13 percent). Abdominal computed tomography (CT) at admission revealed the pancreatic lesions of grade I AAST: 14 (26.9 percent); grade II: 12 (23.1 percent); grade III: 17 (32.7 percent); grade IV: 6 (11.5 percent); grade V: 3 (5.8 percent). 24 cases (46.2 percent) were treated by the conservative method, in which were grade I: 13/24 (54.1 percent); grade II: 5/24 (20.8 percent); grade III: 4/24 (16.7 percent); grade IV: 2/24 (8.3 percent). Emergency surgery was performed in 28/52(53.9 percent) including: grade I: 1/28 (3.6 percent); grade II: 7/28 (25 percent); grade III: 13/28 (46.4 percent); grade IV: 4/28 (14.3 percent); grade V: 3/28 (10.7 percent). The results of treatment: 2 cases with complication (7.1 percent) in the operated group; surgery was performed in 4 cases among the conservative group. The time of hospitalization averaged 5.6 + or - 3.1 days with conservative treatment and 11.7 + or - 7.8 days with surgical treatment. There was no mortality and all the patients weredischarged from the hospital.
