Objectives: To investigate the situation of drug reactions in the National Hospital of Dermatology and Venereology (NHDV). Methods: A cross-sectional study based on the data of. out-patients and inpatients with drug reactions at NHDV from Jan. 2007 to Dec. 2011. Results: For 5 years, there were 5,623 out-patients with drug reactions; accounting for 0.63 percent of the total out-patients. The most frequently affected age group was from .20 to 49 years old (58.12 percent). The group of farmers had the highest rate of 26.5 percent. The majority of the cases (87 percent) had no history of allergy. The type of drug reactions was fixed drug eruption (FOE) (45.7 percent), maculopapular rash (35.6 percent), erythema multiform (16.1 percent), SJS/Lyell (1.65 percent) and erythroderma (0.9 percent). There were 287 patients having to be hospitalised, accounting for 5.1 percent of the patients with drug reactions and 3.65 percent of the in-patients. Of them, SJS/Lyell was the highest (73.34 percent) and only 1.17 percent of the patients with fixed drug eruption were hospitalised. Conclusions: The drug reaction was common in the NHDV. It was mainly at the working age, especially with farmers. The history of allergy was low. Most of the patients were treated at home. There were only 5.1 percent of them having to be hospitalised.
